RAIDERS FINALLY FIND SOME OFFENSIVE LIFE, BUT TURNOVERS DOOM WEEK 8

Las Vegas Raiders show flashes against the Jets, but five Mendoza interceptions prove costly

After a frustrating Week 7 loss to the Rams where the Raiders struggled to get anything going offensively, Las Vegas came into Week 8 hoping to finally get the ball moving.

And for stretches against the Jets, they did just that.

Unfortunately for Coach Big Country and the Raiders, the offense's progress was once again overshadowed by turnovers.

Fernando Mendoza finished the afternoon 8-of-17 passing for 141 yards, but he also threw five interceptions and lost a fumble. The Raiders were able to move the football down the field at times, but repeatedly gave the Jets extra opportunities with costly mistakes.

Washington Jr. Provides the Spark

One of the biggest bright spots for Las Vegas was Mike Washington Jr.

Washington Jr. carried the ball just eight times but exploded for 87 rushing yards, including an incredible 69-yard touchdown run that gave the Raiders a much-needed spark.

He also contributed through the air, hauling in four receptions for 14 yards.

Ashton Jeanty saw very limited action on offense, finishing with only two carries for 40 yards, but his limited opportunities still produced an impressive 20 yards per carry.

Thornton Jr. Comes Up Big

The passing game did have one major highlight.

Thornton Jr. hauled in three receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown, giving Mendoza a big-play weapon downfield.

Despite the explosive plays, however, the Raiders couldn't consistently sustain drives because of the turnovers.

Defense Busy, But Jets Keep Marching

The Raiders' defense had plenty of work to do throughout the afternoon.

The Jets were able to consistently march down the field, putting pressure on the Raiders' defense and keeping them on the field.

Still, Las Vegas defenders were extremely active in the tackling department.

Nakobe Dean led the Raiders with 11 total tackles, continuing his strong season.

Jeremy Chinn recorded nine total tackles and an interception, while Eric Stokes also finished with nine tackles.

The defense couldn't consistently get the Jets off the field, but the tackling numbers showed just how much work the unit was doing throughout the game.

Special Teams Provides Another Huge Play

The Raiders' special teams unit once again provided some fireworks.

Darian Porter returned three kicks for 152 yards, including an explosive 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that went all the way to the house.

Mike Washington Jr. also contributed in the return game, recording three kickoff returns for 80 yards.

Meanwhile, kicker Matt Gay was perfect on the afternoon, going 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts, with his longest coming from 48 yards.

Now Comes Another Huge Test

The Raiders will now turn their attention toward a familiar and dangerous opponent: the Kansas City Chiefs.

After showing signs of life offensively against the Jets, the question heading into Week 9 is whether Las Vegas can finally put together a complete offensive performance—or whether the turnovers will continue to hold them back.

Standing across the field will be Coach Bubbaduran and his explosive Chiefs offense.

The Raiders have shown they can produce explosive plays.

Now they have to find a way to stop giving the ball away.
